We’ve just got back from a lovely break in France – the weather was perfect, and the vino was equally good!  The children had a wonderful time too, spent mostly in the pool!  Thankfully the horses continued to run well in our absence and it was great to add another two winners to the scoreboard, with Carntop scoring and Some Day Soon notching up the four timer!

Not many horses win four races on the bounce and even fewer win four novice hurdles, but that is exactly what Some Day Soon managed at Stratford last weekend on “Syndicate Sunday”.  He carried three penalties to win the class 3 event under another excellent ride from Gavin Sheehan.  This has been a well thought out plan, which was ambitious, but truly wonderful to achieve.  We’ll have to think about where we go next with him, but he looks like he’ll improve for a step up in trip, and we may consider the Grade 2 Persian War novice at Chepstow in October.

Some Day Soon wins his fourth novice hurdle on the bounce this summer.

I was thrilled to see Carntop back to winning ways last week too.  He hadn’t really taken to chasing, and appreciated going back over the smaller obstacles and took advantage of being “2lbs well in” at Southwell and duly obliged.

Of our other recent runners, Winter Holiday was 3rd on her hurdling debut, and Chapmanshype was 3rd in a competitive class 3 handicap at Newton Abbot yesterday.  Both horses should continue to improve over the next couple of months whilst the ground is in their favour.
