Tuesday 11th October 2022 - no sign of any rain.....

With the lack of rain seemingly continuing we have held back from running our winter horses too soon, hence the lack of runners at the moment…..even Ffos Las was too quick for the Welsh Champion Hurdle, despite West Wales getting some rain!

Ffos Las had described their going as good to soft, soft in places, which could have worked nicely for Hardy Du Seuil, but it dried out and Hardy didn’t appreciate that – he’ll be seen to far better effect on some winter ground.  However, he did have a good blow, so at least he’ll be spot on when the rain does arrive!

Having been watered through the summer, we felt the going was ok for Colonel Harry to make his racecourse at Uttoxeter last week, and he ran really well to be 2nd.  He will certainly appreciate softer ground through the winter, and he will improve enormously for that run.  He could be quite exciting.

I was pleased with Pappa Rocco Coco’s racecourse debut when a close 5th at Stratford last week.  He has bags of speed, and the race didn’t really work out for him, but he could be a young horse with a nice future.

We now need some rain before we run a few.  We have some of the winter types ready to go, with the likes of Ga Law ready for a prep run before the Paddy Power Gold Cup next month, but without any rain we might struggle to get a run into him beforehand!  It is frustrating but we’ll just have to abide ourselves with patience, and let mother nature take its course.
