Its all been pretty busy here over the last week - we held our annual owners open day lunch on Sunday, and thankfully the weather was kind to us. We paraded the majority of the horses in front of about 130 guests and then sat down to lunch in the garden. Rodney Masters gave us a lovely write up in the paper on Monday, and I think the whole day was a great success. I think we may have sold all of Ultra Klass as well, and there was an awful lot of interest in Buxom too.....
We then had a couple of runners on Monday at Huntingdon and they both ran brilliantly to be 3rd, but neither were beaten by more than 2 lengths....so close, yet so far! Jawhary had young Brendan Powell back on, and ran a blinding race for a 20-1 shot, and was just done for a bit of speed from the last. Millers Reef gave our Racing Club yet another great run, and was just denied inside the last 100yds, where his big weight finally told - I think we might claim off him next time.
Yesterday was a trip to the sales where I met up with a new owner of ours, and we went specifically to buy a horse called Valento. He was a decent horse over hurdles and had been placed over fences, but was still a novice in that sphere. He looked a nice type, but he did have leg issues in the past, and so we decided our top price would be just over £10k. Unfortunately we were under bidders, and the vendors bought him back in. However, you always need a limit at auctions, and there are plenty more fish in the sea - so hopefully we can find the right horse for him over the next few weeks and months.
This morning we schooled a few of our 'winter' horses. Present View, Ultra Klass and Buxom all schooled over hurdles, and we popped Graduation Night and Miss Milborne over fences. They all schooled well, and put a smile on my face - bring on October......
