I was thrilled to see Colonel Harry winning at Sandown yesterday in the style of a very decent horse.  He travelled kindly, jumped for fun, quickened up and galloped on remorselessly.  The time of the race was 4m25, and the time of Constitution Hill’s course and distance Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle win on similar ground was 4m22, and that looks the likely next race for Colonel Harry.   He looks a proper horse and is hugely exciting.

Colonel Harry is an impressive winner at Sandown.

In the same breath, it was lovely to see Datsalrightgino winning equally as impressively last week on his 2nd attempt over fences.  He had been 2nd at Newton Abbot last month, but he stepped forward from that run to put in a seriously impressive performance.  We have always thought highly of him, and I think fences are really making a man out of him.  I think he will now head to Newbury at the end of the month for a valuable novice handicap chase on ‘Hennessey’ day.

Datsalrightgino wins in taking style at Chepstow over fences.

I was pleased with Git Maker’s chasing debut when 2nd at Sandown yesterday.  He was a bit slow and careful over his fences early on, but he settled into his jumping and jumped the last two the best.  They didn’t go much of a gallop, so he was naturally outpaced when the pace of the race lifted passing the Railway fences, but he stayed on strongly up the hill under pressure, having taken a blow jumping the eventual last fence.  The winner is a good horse, who won the Adonis at Kempton as a juvenile, and both the winner and the 3rd horse had chasing experience.  That run will have put him spot on for the rest of the season now, and he will go up in trip as the season progresses.

Git Maker is 2nd on his chasing debut.

I was thrilled with Villainess who was 2nd on her racecourse debut in a Newbury bumper.  She was well behaved and professional in everything she did, but was a bit green and wondered around when off the bridle inside the final 2 furlongs.  However, she was brave and galloped through the line.  She looks a racehorse, and has a nice future ahead of her.
