It was wonderful to see Donnie Azoff winning at Taunton last week in a maiden hurdle.  He has been 2nd in a bumper, and twice already over hurdles, and so he deserved to finally get his head in front.  The ground was very soft, but he splashed his way through it, and won in the style of a horse who is progressing.  It was lovely that HRH The Princess Royal was there to present the trophy to his owners, and to our team who were down there.

Lucy and I were actually away last week, as we took the children skiing – it was their first time, and my first time for about 30 years – thankfully we came back with no broken bones!  It was a lovely break for us all, although with all the action, it didn’t feel like a break, and I think we’ve come home for a holiday!

Whilst we were away, Hardy Du Seuil also ran, and probably put in a career best to be 2nd up at Wetherby.  He was only beaten ½ a length with 12 lengths back to the 3rd placed horse…..so frustratingly the handicapper has given us a hit too!

Another horse to hit the crossbar, was Doc McCoy who came up against a really impressive newcomer when he was 2nd in a bumper at Wetherby.  The Doc has sown three placed bumper runs this season, and should make up into a decent novice hurdler next season after a good summer holiday.

Our only other runner recently was Double Click, who was 3rd at Fontwell earlier this week on his racecourse debut.  He showed plenty of promise, but was pretty green and backwards, and should improve enormously for the run.
