Fresh from a double at Kempton, I was thrilled to see Roger Pol winning on his chasing debut at Southwell last week.  This dual bumper winner, won a novice hurdle last season, and he jumped really neatly, and won pretty cosily in the end.  He’s the half-brother to Adrrastos who won 5 chases for us, so he should continue to progress this season.

I think we have a strong hand in the novice hurdle division this season, and La Marquise won well on her hurdling debut at Ludlow last week.  However, it wasn’t with a bit of drama as she was almost brought down at the 3rd last hurdle.  She did incredibly well to get back up to win, and she will improve enormously for the run, so I think she could be very smart.  Bumper winner, Bellas Bridge was 3rd on her hurdling debut, and will appreciate softer ground and/or further, so I was pleased with her effort.

We’ve introduced some nice youngsters to the track this week, and all have shown considerable promise.  Ride Like A Girl has followed the path we took with La Marquise having been bought in France as a 2 year old, we sent her to Ireland for a years education, before arriving with us in the summer as a 3 year old.  She made her debut in the same race we won with La Marquise last year, and hoped lightening could strike twice……it almost did, but she was 2nd.  She ran a lovely race and looks a winner waiting to happen.

Ride Like A Girl is 2nd on her racecourse debut.

Cinquenta made his racecourse debut in a competitive Chepstow bumper on Tuesday, and he showed plenty of raw ability to be 3rd.  He is a big powerful future staying chaser, so whatever he achieves in his early years will be a bonus – he should develop into a seriously nice horse for the future.  Meanwhile, Kosac D’Oudairies showed a good level of ability when 5th at Newton Abbot. In fairness, coming from that far off the pace at Newton Abbot and going as wide as he did around the top two bends, he would have had to be very good to get up. As it was, he showed ability but lacked a change of gear. Which, in fairness, is what we knew beforehand. I also think that will turn out to be a pretty useful bumper.

Cinquenta was 3rd on his racecourse debut.
