It was great to see Exod’ela winning on handicap debut at Ludlow yesterday under another good ride from Gavin Sheehan. We had always thought Exod’ela was a useful horse, but he’s taken a bit of working out. Having won his Irish point, he has since been 2nd and 3rd in two bumpers and he’s filled the same positions in a brace of novice hurdles. However, he looks better suited to how handicaps tend to be run as sometimes novice hurdles can be falsely run races. He travelled well in behind the leaders yesterday and showed a nice turn of foot to pick up from the back of the last to win going away. He looks a young progressive type, and there should be a lot more to come from him, and we might look at a big handicap at Ayr or Sandown later on this season.

Coole Well ran well enough to be 4th yesterday, but probably didn’t quite stay. He’s not the easiest horse, and certainly has his limitations. Minella Beat burst another blood vessel at Wincanton earlier this week. We’ve given him every chance since ‘bursting’ in the autumn, and regrettably we’ll have to move him on. The same will apply to Barrowlands, who having won a maiden hurdle for us, just looks badly handicapped, and will make someone a lovely point-to-pointer.
Barrowlands is looking for a new home to go pointing.
