We have had a busy week at the Doncaster Spring Sales where we have been selling and re stocking as well. On the whole I thought our horses sold well enough, and we look to have an exciting recruit to the yard for next season.
This 3 year old gelding is by Kapgarde and is out of a half sister to the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Long Run (also won the King George) and Liberthine, who won 6 races including the Mildmay of Flete Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. Kapgarde is a high class sire of many good horses including Edgardo Sol and exciting novice hurdler Garde La Victoire. This chap’s half sister is already rated 120 and is only 4 years old….!
Above is a picture of the Kapgarde gelding - he is a smashing looking horse, and below is a link to a video I took this morning of him trotting up.
He has been lunged and well handled, so our plan now is to back him over the next month and ride him away. We'll then give him a short break out in the field to let it all sink in, and then start him back in training through the autumn. He is an absolutely gorgeous horse who should be able to win his bumper before really excelling over hurdles and fences down the line. He is a hugely exciting prospect.
We sold four of the five horses we took up to Doncaster - Wyfield Rose was sold for £12,000 to go up to Scotland, whilst Comedinewithme went for £7,200 to Yorkshire. It was a great shame that we had to pass Royal Macnab on, but after a couple of wind ops already he was still struggling with his breathing. Whilst Scuderia has been bought to go Pointing. We failed to sell Lough Derg Way so we brought him home, but he is still for sale and would make a cracking ladies pointer – so do call if interested?
