In what has been a tricky and challenging few months for us all, I am thrilled that our owners and staff have all been wonderful during this period, but now we are all itching to get back racing again this week…..and look forward to hopefully another successful campaign.  We were incredibly proud and delighted to achieve 46 winners last season, in a campaign that finished 6 weeks early.  We’ve missed a few months already now, however, we will be doing our very best to ensure this campaign is just as successful and the new National Hunt season kicks off tomorrow at Southwell where we have three runners.  Do sign into  to find out my thoughts on their chances.....

The BHA announced yesterday that owners will be able to start attending race meetings behind closed doors from Saturday 4 July in a safe and risk-managed way, under plans agreed by the RCA, ROA and BHA.   As the BHA have announced “the return of owners to the racecourse will be phased, with interim safety and infection control measures in place to minimise risk for owners, prioritise the wellbeing of all attendees, and ensure that the sport is aligned with government guidance relating to attendance at elite sports venues.”  However, with lockdown being eased in other areas of society, the protocols the BHA have come up with for owners look outdated as people will soon be free to meet in non-sporting venues with much more freedom than is proposed on the racecourse.   I strongly feel owners should be able to participate fully in the racecourse experience as soon as possible, as opposed being corralled into an area designed for owners that has very limited facilities and where there will be limited/no access to trainers or jockeys, or even their horses!

Let's hope common sense prevails soon......
