Finally, after our frustrating string of seconds this month I was relieved to score with Midnight Silver who won the bumper yesterday at Fontwell. Our horses have been running consistently well this month, but having hit the crossbar on a few occasions it was a relief that one went into the back of the net!
Brendan kept it simple on Midnight Silver and she fairly sprinted away in atrocious conditions. She had improved at home since finishing 2nd at Wetherby in November, and it was nice to see her win in such emphatic fashion. She should be able to defy a penalty in an ordinary bumper, but we may look at stepping her up to listed company at some point this season.
It is a shame that Lingfield has been cancelled on Wednesday as I was looking forward to seeing Star Sovereign make her debut in the bumper. She is the half sister to Joanne One, and looks to be a promising individual. We’ve a few horses entered later this week and I hope we don’t lose any more meetings. I was pleased to see that the horse who beat Heronry at Wincanton won again at Kempton on Sunday – Heronry is in at Taunton on Thursday and I am looking forward to seeing him out again. Others to look forward to are Rhythm Star and Major Milborne who have several entries and we’ll try to find the right race for them.
