On Friday evening it was the Brightwells sale at Cheltenham on the eve of the Paddy Power, and I bought a lovely horse. Fact of the Matter is a gorgeous 4 year old bay gelding by the St. Ledger winner Brain Boru, out of the half sister to the useful jumper Haydens First, from the close family of Corymandel who was a decent staying chaser….the pedigree also includes the decent 2 mile chaser Fix the Rib, and useful novice Frascati Park.

Fact of the Matter won an Irish Point-to-Point on his 2nd start at Loughrea, having fallen on his debut.  The horse in 2nd won on his next start, so the form should hold up….and it’s a good track too - in fact Brindisi Breeze won the same race a few years ago and Fact of the Matter was consigned by the same vendors who sold him too. I've copied the video link below:

I fell in love with this horse as he looked just like Present View when I bought him as a 4 year old!  He's a lovely looking horse, who will strengthen up into a serious horse.  I would have thought this chap would be able to win his bumper in the spring before having a good summer holiday and then being a decent hurdler next season, however chasing will be his game.

We ran Tea Caddy at Fakenham today in the same race she won last season however she was unable to keep the trophy as she finished 3rd this time around. She was a bit outpaced turning down the back straight, before she stayed on close home – she’ll benefit from a more galloping track.
