Wining at Newbury on Wednesday was exactly what Major Milborne deserved. After 2 placed efforts in bumpers, 4 over hurdles and 2 over fences from just 9 runs his consistency has been rewarded….and I was pleased he won at a grade 1 track with a few of the owners there to help celebrate.

I thought Brendan gave him a lovely ride, and timed his challenge to perfection this time and the Major came away in the style of a fresh horse.  He travelled well, but I was most impressed by his jumping that has improved and improved with every run.  They went a good gallop and it played to our strengths as we know we would stay further than the 2m2 trip.  We might run him back over hurdles on Boxing Day where we escape a penalty.

Talking of Boxing Day we’ve entered quite a few across the country, and we have to declare tomorrow, so it’ll be a busy afternoon working it all out!

We ran Alanjou at Bangor today over 3 miles for the first time, and he ran well to be 3rd. Having won at Fontwell in October, he had disappointed the next time, so I am pleased that he’s back on form. We may reach for the blinkers next time though, as I’m not sure he’s really putting it all in, and I feel that he can win again before long.
