It has been an incredible start to October as we’ve notched up 9 winners which in turn brought up our 500th career winner at Hereford earlier this week.

Jackstell and Doc McCoy got the month off in the best possible way but winning at Warwick.  Jackstell had been placed in four novice hurdles last season, but he benefited from a good summer holiday, and he looks to be improving.  Meanwhile, Doc McCoy has been a wonderful friend to us this summer, and he notched up yet another win under Izzi Ryder, who has been in tremendous form herself.  She has formed a great relationship with Roger Pol who won twice in the week, following up an emphatic triumph at Uttoxeter, with a gutsy success under a 7lbs penalty at Hexham.  She also gave Donnie Azoff a wonderfully patient ride to land our 500th winner at Hereford on Monday.  That was the second leg of a double, as Gavin gave Jackstell a fabulous ride to win a novice hurdle under a penalty.

The long trip up to Sedgefield last week paid off as we came away with another double as Obsessedwithyou won her third chase of the summer under a well-judged ride from Gavin, and he was very sympathetic on Opale De Maine who won the bumper.  She jumps hurdles well, and I look forward to seeing her progress over timber now.

Fresh Perspective looks to have a serious engine, as he was very impressive at Fontwell on his hurdling debut.  He had won a bumper last season, and he has the size and scope to be a smart individual.  However, we haven’t been able to school on grass yet this autumn (as it’s been so dry) and that told as it looked as though he’d never seen a hurdle, as he bunny hoped or crashed through them all.  He must have some engine to win how he did…..!

Of our other runners, they have all been placed in an incredible run of form.  Cinnodin was 2nd in a novice hurdle, and will now appreciate handicapping over further.  Bumper winner, Tiptoptim was 2nd on his hurdling debut, and will improve enormously for that, and will be a very nice horse to follow for this season and beyond.  Torneo was 2nd on his seasonal return, and on his first run out of novice company and I think there will be a nice handicap in him this season.  Whilst, Davidoc, Roe and Co and Dwight K Schrute have all been 3rd, all of whom will improve for softer ground this winter.

Idy Wood won on his seasonal debut on route to the Silver Trophy at Chepstow last weekend, where he was a very creditable 4th.  He might be one we try to target at the Lanzarote at Kempton in January.
