I am delighted that the summer team have been in tremendous form, and with another two winners we’ve notched up 10 winners already in the new season at a strike rate of 31%.
Roger Pol was a lovely winner on my Birthday under a terrific ride from Gavin up at Uttoxeter. Having been a decent novice hurdler, he won on his chasing debut, but didn’t really appreciate jumping fences. Back over hurdles, and up in trip, he looks a progressive staying hurdler now.
It was great to see She Is For Me Boys winning under a penalty at Fontwell for Karen Gunn, who has supported us since we first started training. She jumped really well and I look forward to seeing her progressing over fences after a summer holiday now.
It was a real shame to see Janworth tipping up at the last at Southwell with the race at her mercy. She was 10 lengths clear and all she had to do was pop the last, but she was flying down to the last flight and the momentum toppled her over. Thankfully she’s come out of it fine, and we’ll endeavour to make amends at Worcester tomorrow.
Having won on his seasonal debut, Donnie Azoff ran a belter off a career high mark to be beaten less than 3 lengths in the Class 2 at Market Rasen, and he can continue to be competitive over the summer.
Knights Affair won on his hurdling debut, and came within a length of defying a penalty at Newton Abbot earlier this month. He looked more polished and mature, and can surely win next time out. Realistic Optimism also finished 2nd last week on his seasonal return, and will improve for the run.
