We were inches away from having an across the card Saturday double yesterday at Ffos Las and Sandown. Souriyan was denied in the shadow of the line by a horse that appeared from the clouds. He ran a cracker and although he didn’t really appreciate the very heavy ground there, his class looked to be prevailing and he got the better of the argument with the eventual 3rd but then he wouldn’t have seen the winner coming with a wet sail to get up on the line. I hope he’ll now be able to go to the Fred Winter at the Festival. However, we’ll have to see what the handicapper thinks on Tuesday as he may need to run again now – oh how frustrating!
Meanwhile Monbeg Theatre was denied by half a length at Sandown where he was making his handicap debut. He was travelling so well, but hit the front some way from home and idled up the hill having made a mistake at the last flight. Once passed he rallied and he has to go down as an unlucky loser. There is more to come from him and the EBF Final is now the target.
