Lough Derg Way ran today in his first novice hurdle. It was a very competitive race for the time of year, but we were quietly confident considering he was so impressive on his debut for us 2 weeks ago in a bumper at Uttoxeter. He ran well enough to finish 5th today, beaten by 4 very nice horses, but Sam T-D suggested he needed a step up in trip, and I think he would appreciate a bit of cut in the ground as well. We'll give him a quiet week, and freshen him up before his next start.

Harry Skelton came in on Wednesday to give 4 babies a pop over some poles in the outdoor school. Zava River jumped beautifully as we'd have expected as he had learnt the basics before his summer holiday, and we'll get him over hurdles next week. Shinko Moon and Miss Milborne were very good considering it was their first time off the ground. We'll give them some more basic tuition before we get them over the tyres outside. Tom Sang was also a natural, and despite being green, he popped away well.
