As Christmas is over I felt that I should probably do another blog as, again, I’ve been pretty useless at keeping them regular. Christmas was, like for everyone, a strange one this year, but even though we weren’t able to have a party we still kept some of the traditions such as Secret Santa and pigs in blankets on Christmas eve. We are marginally down on horses through December which isn’t all bad as it gives the lads quiet an easy time of it with some only riding 2 lots which, come spring, will be but a warm memory. Jamie’s Christmas present to me was the opportunity to try out the new circuit schooling ground which consists of 7 hurdles over about a mile dotted around ‘The Bowl’, which is one of the best grass gallops you’ll find. It’s a really good idea as going around there is the closest thing you’ll get to an actual race with leaving Lambourn. Nothing went wrong so I can’t have lost all sense of jockeyship!
I’m personally really looking forward to the spring this year as we didn’t get a full one last year and we have so many nice young horses to run, it also means the autumn horses return from their holiday and begin to get fit ready for their 2021 campaigns.
My half of the Lads worked Christmas this year so we get New Year’s Day off, but being in a tier 4 area I might struggle to stay up until midnight!
