I was thrilled to see Between the Waters deservedly get his head in front at Fontwell on Saturday under another fine ride from Page Fuller.  He had been placed in 12 of his 17 starts, so this debut win was justly deserved.  However, over the summer I acquired a quarter share in him and that is currently available should anyone be interested in joining the fun.  He runs every three weeks, is placed more often than not, and now he’s got the winning feeling I think he should be able to win a few more over the autumn.

Between the Waters scores at Fontwell.

Meanwhile, our first “winter runner” was Some Day Soon who was denied in a photo finish and went down by a short head at Bangor on his hurdling debut last week!  He was 2nd on debut for us in a competitive bumper at Huntingdon in the spring, and ran really well over hurdles here, and I think he could head to Cheltenham later this month for a class 3 maiden hurdle.

Some Day Soon is narrowly denied on hurdling debut at Bangor.

Having won his two novice hurdles over the summer, Carntop was unable to carry a double penalty at Huntingdon last week where he finished 4th.  He’s had breathing issues in the past and I think that he would need another wind operation but I also suspect he’s had a long summer, and is ready for a holiday now too.  Our Reward filled that spot too last week, but looked unlucky to hit the 2nd last flight when he still held the advantage, and I am sure it won’t be long until he wins for us again.

I look forward to running Kalahari Queen over fences tomorrow.  She won twice last season over hurdles, but her best performance was when 2nd in the Grade 2 Mares Novice Final at Newbury in March.  She has taken well to jumping fences and should be able to progress throughout the season as a smart novice chaser.

We have a few entered up for Chepstow at the weekend, and I hope to run Double Treasure in the Grade 2 Persian War, Dans Le Vent in the Grade 3 Tote Silver Trophy, and Alrightjack in the valuable bumper there too.  Other entries are Scorpion Sid in the Listed novice chase, but he’d need plenty of rain to fall before he runs, and Hogan’s Height who might run the following week prior to a tilt at the Badger Ales perhaps….. the excitement is building……
